Introduction: How to Open, Extract and Unpack Archives on Android (zip, Rar, 7z, Tar, B1, Etc.)
We all from time to time download some photos or music from the Internet. Such files usually come in archives. It's nothing new if your using a PC or laptop, but if your using an Android device, some minor troubles may surface. In order to avoid this, I present you a simple and very powerful tool for your tablet and smartphone. Follow these simple instructions and you'll be able to open any archive you receive on your portable device.
Step 1: Preparations
Certainly you'll need a capable archive manager to open archives on Android. The great tool I refer to is B1 Free Archiver. Download it and install via Google play.
Otherwise, if you want a greater functionality, you can turn to B1 File Manager - it has the same archive management capabilities extended with cloud storages and networks management.
So install and launch any of these two apps.
Step 2: Basics
To open any archive you, first of all, need to navigate to it. B1 Free Archiver is a great file manager, so it's quite easy. Once you get to the desired archive you can either tap it (this will give you the basic unpacking options) or long tap it (provides advanced options). In order to unpack anything, the first option will be enough.

Step 3: Unpacking
Simply tap the archive you want to unpack and select 'Extract here'.
That's it! That's basically all. You have you stuff unpacked.
However, there are some more advanced features that can be useful.
Step 4: Other Unpacking Options
If you want your files to be neatly organized, you can unpack any archive to a separate folder. 'Extract to folder 'archive-name' will create a folder based on the archives title and place the archives content inside it.
Otherwise you can select 'Extract to another folder.'. Here you'll be able to navigate to another folder and extract an archive inside it. Of course, you can relocate any file ar folder later using the 'Move' function from the Long tam menu.
Step 5: Unpacking Split Archives
Sometimes you can stumble upon split archives. They are usually used when users need to send large files via emails of file storages which have size limitations. Such archives usually have a different extension, like, .001, z01, etc. In order to unpack them you need to download all the parts of the archive and place them into the same folder. When that is done, you can open them just like the usual archives.
Step 6: Opening Password-protected Archives
Some archives turn out to be password-protected. You'll learn about it once you try to unpack them - a new dialogue will pop-up asking for a password. Only the creator of that particular archive knows the password, so contact him and ask for it. Alternatively, the password may be written directly in the archives title, on the page (forum thread) where you've downloaded it. Give it a little search. Once you get the password, just enter it into that dialogue and the files will be extracted.
